John Tanke Camp Fire Circle behind the Rifle Range is Complete!!
The Camp Fire Circle, located by the Rifle Range and along the path to the Island, has received a long overdo renovation thanks to a generous donation by Valerie Tanke in Memory of her late husband John.
The Camp Fire Circle can again be used by smaller groups at camp for a more intimate setting. Cabin groups, during the summer, can utilize the space for Blue Moon Wish events. The location provides for an almost panoramic view of Turtle Bay and Big Corey.
Thank you Valerie and all of the Tanke Family. The wording on the plaque is as follows:
Camp Fire Circle
Dedicated in Memory of John Lee Tanke
January 3, 1954 – June 3, 2018
John Tanke was a Camp Eberhart camper, a member of the Board of Directors and a proud Camp Eberhart alumnus. John spent his summers at Camp Eberhart in the 1960’s after his dad, Ken, began working for the YMCA in South Bend. He shared his love for camp with his wife and with his sons, Matthew and Michael, who attended camp every summer, just like their dad. As a teacher and school administrator, John introduced outdoor learning and camping to hundreds of middle school students.
