Stella Trench Passes


Stella (McMaster) Trench died Thursday, July 18, 2019 at her home after a long illness. Stella May McMaster was born July 13, 1927 in Galesburg, Illinois to George H. McMaster Sr. and May T.(Hunter). She graduated from Galesburg Sr. High School and Knox College, also in Galesburg. After college she moved to South Bend to take a teaching job. While in South Bend, she met Richard Trench and they married and later divorced. Stella spent many summers teaching riding at Camp Eberhart in Michigan. She was simply known as the "Horse Lady" to hundreds of campers. The riding arena there was later named the "Stella Trench Arena." She loved all animals, but especially horses and dogs. She had a very large personality and when she entered a room she seemed to fill the room with her presence. She had many family and friends and surrogate daughters that she loved and most of all she loved her two children, Richard (Mac) Trench and Julie Trench and her granddaughter, Mariah Trench. Stella was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers George H. McMaster, Jr. and James H. McMaster as well as her sister-in-law and closest friend Ann McMaster. She is survived by her son, Mac Trench (Liz), 3 children and 3 grandchildren, daughter, Julie Trench, plus several nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held 6:00 pm. Wednesday, July 24th, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.
