Second Annual Alumni “Train the Trainer” Day at Eberhart – 2019
Second annual Alumni “Train the Trainer” Day at Eberhart – 2019
Thursday, June 6, 2019
8:00am – 4:30pm
We held our first EB Alumni Mentoring Day in 2018 and already we have witnessed many improvements in the progression of skills campers learned in our 17 program areas. Thank you to all the alumni and current Camp staff that participated.
This year we will continue with our mentoring and will be focusing on helping to establish the STRUCTURE of the program (it can’t be just “whatever you want to do”) and also HOW to teach the campers the skills they are learning. It’s one thing to know how to do something; it’s another thing to know how to TEACH someone how to do something.
We will start the day with breakfast in Klinger. Katia will introduce the alumni and the current staff to each other and will define what we hope to accomplish on that day. She will also review that this is a five-year plan and that we are now on “Day 1 of Year 2”. We will then go to the program areas and work with the current staff, passing on the skills and teaching methods that are so important when teaching campers.
Lunch will be provided in Klinger and then we will have the rest of the afternoon to finish up any remaining items necessary for your program. At the end of the day, the EB alumni will be gathering (I think at the Pub 60 Grille / former Friendly) for the initial social event of our alumni weekend. Chris Sallows will have more information on that social gathering.
LODGING – will be provided at Camp in the stone cabins on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday and Saturday night lodging will be in Leighton. We are checking on Monday and Tuesday lodging for early arriving alumni that might need it. More to follow on that.
MEALS – Heather and her fine kitchen staff will feed us, starting with breakfast on Thursday. We’re checking on the EXACT starting time for that meal. More info to follow. They will also provide meals for us for any alumni that stay in camp and are working on program or work projects.
TO SIGN UP FOR MENTORING – Please email Nancy Parker O’Brien at Nobrien20112017@gmail.com
CURRENT PROGRAM AREAS –
Nature & Outdoor Living Skills
Fishing & Bait Casting
Arts & Crafts
Music & Drama
High Ropes & Challenge Course
Trail Riding (Bikes)
All programs could use some instruction in HOW TO TEACH the campers the skills. Some of the programs need to re-develop a STRUCTURE to the program, such as how is the hour-long program period used most effectively. Many also need an AWARDS SYSTEM that teaches the campers program skills in a PROGRESSION from beginner to intermediate to advanced and ultimately to a proficiency in the program.
Please sign up by email to Nancy O’Brien. Specify what program(s) you feel you could impact the most. Let us know when you are arriving and whether or not you will need lodging in a cabin at Camp.
Please contact Nancy O’Brien with any questions you might have.
THIS IS A VERY EXCITING TIME FOR EBERHART, WE’RE GLAD YOU ARE A PART OF IT!
